College Applicants Vote KU #8
When college applicants were asked which school they wanted to attend regardless of their current academic performance, Konkuk University (KU) ranked #8. In a survey conducted by daehac.com, 11.2% of the 987 applicants chose KU. The improved ranking appears to have challenged the traditionally strong preference for Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, Sogang University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, Chungang University, Kyunghee University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and University of Seoul in that order. In fact, the difference between KU and Kyunghee, which ranked #5 in the survey, was a mere 1.1%p.
KU ranked #7 among both male and female applicants. In terms of performance on the college entrance exam, KU ranked #11 among Grade 1 applicants, but ranked #8 among Grade 2-3 applicants. Grade 4 applicants chose KU only after Yonsei.
The survey was conducted on college applicants who attended the “Information Session on 2016 Regular Decision” hosted by the Korean Council for University Education at Coex during December 2-6, 2015. Of the applicants who participated in the survey, 94% resided in Seoul and the capital area and 41.1% were male. They received an average grade of 2.98 for Korean, Math, and English on the 2015 college entrance exam.
