‘KU Animal Cancer Center’ under Konkuk University Animal Hospital
Divided into four departments, Surgery/Internal Medicine/Video Diagnosis/Tumor Cell Analysis…Focuses on cancer and single-disease treatment
10 million pets and 15 million pet nurturing population / Leading the advancement of animal cancer treatment in Korea
 <img width="657" height="472" style="margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; display: block;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11827588" /><Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine, In Soo Choi, President Young Jae Jeon, Chairman Ja Eun Yoo, President of Korean Veterinary Medicala Association, Joo Hyung Huh, Dean of KU Animal Hospital, Hun Young Yoo> Konkuk University established ‘KU Animal Cancer Center’ under Konkuk University Animal Hospital located in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, and held an opening ceremony on the 26th to focus on single-disease treatment and precision medicine-based cancer treatment research. 
In compliance with COVID-19 quarantine guidelines, Chairman of Konkuk University, Ja Eun Yoo, President of Konkuk University, Young Jae Jeon, President of Korean Veterinary Medicine Association, Joo Hyung Huh, Dean of KU Animal Hospital, Hun Young Yoo joined the opening ceremony. The ceremony included an opening speech from Kyung A Yoon, the Dean of Animal Cancer Center, congratulatory messages from President of Konkuk University, President of Korean Veterinary Medicine Association and Chairman of Konkuk University, and a tour of the Animal Cancer Center. 
Although the number of cancer patients is increasing due to the aging of pets, it has been difficult to find medical facilities that specialize in treating cancer. The KU Animal Cancer Center will be in charge of treating cancer patients in Konkuk University Animal Hosiptal and from outside animal hospitals. 
The KU Animal Cancer Center has four medical departments including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Video Diagnosis and Tumor Cell Analysis while 12 professors and 30 veterinarians are working at a space of 240 pyeong. Professor Kyung A Yoon (Department of Veterinary Medinice, Konkuk University) who had worked at National Cancer Center for last 10 years is now the Dean of the Center. The center will provide ‘patient-specific one-stop cancer treatment’ by establishing cooperative treatment network based on medical clinic. 
In the Department of Surgery, professors with abundant clinical experiences perform precise cancer surgery with state-of-the-art equipment and surgical methods based on tumor characteristics, and improve the quality of surgery. The Department of Internal Medicine aims to minimize the side effects of anticancer drugs and maximize anticancer effects with systematic monitoring for patient-specific chemotherapy. The Department of Video Diagnosis provides the best diagnosis and treatment with the latest video diagnosis equipment (X-ray, US, CT, MRI, etc.) and technology. The Center for Tumor Cell Analysis at Animal Cancer Center, in particular, can plan out precise treatment schedules for patients through the analysis of tumor cells and genes. 
The KU Animal Cancer Center, as a tertiary medical institution, will respond to medical requests from regional animal hospitals with top tier veterinarians, researchers, the most advanced equipment and technology. 
The Dean of KU Animal Cancer Center, Kyung-A Yoon, said, “Cancer is neither a rare disease for pets nor a desperate disease that ends life,” and, “The KU Animal Cancer Center will establish optimal anticancer treatment strategies by comprehensively determining the characteristics of cells and genes in addition to clinical information of pets diagnosed with cancer." 
President Jeon stated, “We hope that KU Animal Cancer Center would become the best pet cancer center in Korea with a number of clinical cases and the latest technology,” and, “The KU headquarters will actively support KU Animal Cancer Center to achieve its leading goal.” 
Chairman Yoo said, “Konkuk University will take the lead in the health of pets in line with the changes of the times,” adding, “Through various experiences and achievements from researchers, we hope the center will be a cradle of life that can help develop veterinary medicine and cure incurable diseases of human life.” <img width="659" height="370" style="border: 0px currentColor; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; display: block;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11827587" />
