On March 8, 2016, Konkuk University (KU) announced that it has embarked on a fundraising campaign to commemorate its 70th anniversary and prepare for a new stage of development. Vice President for External Affairs Seongyul Park said, “I hope that donors can add their wisdom, encouragement, and efforts, so that KU could transform into a globally competitive university.” The university plans to use the funds for the KU community in four main areas, including major projects, educational facilities, scholarships, and events to celebrate the anniversary. Fundraising for major projects is categorized into gifts to the general fund and gifts to the GLOCAL campus or KU Medical Center. The general fund will be used to improve KU’s academic environment through research, global leadership education, community service, and renovation of the library. Gifts to the GLOCAL campus and medical center will enhance their domestic and global standing, especially as the latter thrives to become one of the top 5 hospitals in the country. Gifts to build educational facilities will be earmarked for the New Engineering Building and sports facilities. Donors can also direct their gifts to a specific undergraduate college or graduate school for scholarships. Finally, gifts for the 70th anniversary celebration will be used for the formal ceremony, musical performances, special exhibition at the KU Museum, and the second ox statue. Support for the campaign is expected to be broad-based, with contributions from corporations run by KU alumni, undergraduate colleges and graduate schools, university foundation and affiliates, GLOCAL campus, KUMC, local community, and alumni association. All individual and corporate donors will be eligible for tax benefits. Depending on the amount, donors may also receive a discount on medical fees at KUMC or have classrooms named after them. To provide a gift or make a pledge, please contact KU’s Office of Public Affairs at give@konkuk.ac.kr or (02) 450-3255.
