Konkuk University (KU) announced that new sports facilities will be opened in March. “If the construction wraps up by the end of February and the new sports facilities become available for use in March, it will provide new opportunities for KU,” said Mr. Byeongwoo Lee of the Office of Facilities. “
In July 2015, a concrete stadium that has been in use since 1973 was removed to construct the new facilities. In order to encourage extracurricular activities among students, a soccer field, a basketball court, a futsal court, and two jokgu courts were built. A 100-m track was installed for students of the Department of Physical Education. There is also a 500-m track to be used by all students. In addition, a lawn will be opened for outdoor performances and gatherings. The two outdated tennis courts nearby were also renovated with artificial grass.
A total of ₩3.31 billion was spent on removing the existing stadium, building new facilities, electrical wiring, outdoor lighting, and landscaping. “Since the facilities are comparable with those of other major universities in Seoul, I hope that students can frequently use the space,” said Mr. Lee.
