Konkuk University (KU) announced on April 5, 2016, that Report about Death by Director Jin-A Kim, an alumni, was invited to the 2016 Annecy International Animated Film Festival for the graduation films category. The 6-minute, 2D cut-outs narrates the process of death from the moment one recognizes that he or she is dying to afterlife.“Fear against death prevents us from facing the end our life and many people spend their remaining time extending their time instead of spending it meaningfully,” Ms. Kim said. “I hope that Report about Death can help people think about what death is, what happens to us, and how we should live to prepare for that certainty.”Originally part of the Cannes Film Festival, the Annecy International Animated Film Festival was created as a separate film festival devoted to animation in 1960. The festival took place every other year, then became an annual event from 1997. It had a large impact on other animated film festivals in Zagreb, Ottawa, and Hiroshima. This year, 54 short films, 30 TV films, and 57 graduation films were selected out of 2,700 films for competition. In terms of Korean films, Director Lee Sung-gang’s My Beautiful Girl, Mari and Director Sung Baek-yeop’s Oseam have won the feature films prize in 2002 and 2004, respectively.
