Konkuk University (KU) recognized twelve of its professors as “best teachers” on March 30, 2016. The award ceremony was attended by 100 students who expressed their gratitude towards their professors. KU President Heeyoung Song presented the awards and bouquets of flowers to the “best teachers” and emphasized the importance of lectures in improving the quality of university education.
Each semester, KU selects six professors teaching humanities, social sciences, or arts, and another six from science, engineering, or medicine as “best teachers.” For the first semester of 2016, the award recipients were: Professor Nayoung Kwon of the Department of English Language and Literature, Professor Hyunzin Ko of the Department of Apparel Design, Professor Sam Hun Park of the Department of Japanese Language Education, Professor Daeun Nam of the Department of Film & Animation, Professor Sangho Kim of the Department of Aerospace Information Engineering, Professor Seung-Hyun Kim of the Department of Applied Bioscience, Professor Seung Yong Park of the Department of Veterinary Science, Professor of the College of Bioscience & Biotechnology, Professor Hyunwook Jin of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, and Professor Hwanin Sung of the Department of Graduate School of Agriculture & Animal Science. “When I was in Professor Seung-Hyun Kim’s class, I always thought that he communicated very well with his students,” said Eunyoung Kim, an applied bioscience student. “I was able to understand difficult material through audiovisual resources Professor Kim provided, and I would like to thank him for always answering students in detail."On the other hand, Professor Servantes, a foreign faculty member at the Department of International Trade received the best teacher award for the second time. He taught International Marketing and Globalization and Finance courses and informed students of internship opportunities. He said that Korean students are eager to learn and work very hard. “Without the open-minded students, my lecture would not have been an outstanding lecture,” he said.
