On May 28, 2016, approximately 700 Konkuk University (KU) alumni gathered for homecoming. A formal ceremony, which took place at the New Millennium Hall, was followed by many meetings organized by alumni chapters in specific geographic areas and graduating class as well as a luncheon in the lawn located in front of the Administrative Building on campus. “Looking back at KU’s history in light of its 70th anniversary, we witness many developments that were made possible through many of our alumni chapters,” said Dr. Konsoo Jung, president of KU’s alumni association, in his welcoming remarks during the ceremony. “I hope we can strive to do our very best in our respective positions so that the university can become one of the top five private universities in Korea.”“Konkuk University is maintaining its reputation as one of Korea’s best universities thanks to the dedication and support by its alumni,” said KU President Heeyoung Song. “Recently KU has been selected for the PRIME project by the government and ten of its alumni have been elected to the National Assembly in April. These accomplishments are particularly meaningful as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dr. Seokchang Yoo founding KU’s predecessor, the Chosun School of Politics, to raise future leaders of the country.” A total of 14 alumni, including those newly elected to the National Assembly, were recognized as distinguished alumni for the year. Seven additional alumni received lifetime achievement awards for their activities in and contributions towards the alumni association.
