“I hope that students can go overseas and broaden their horizon during their youth to gain meaningful experiences and enrich their lives,” Dr. Konsoo Jung said to students who were given the opportunity to take a trip to Europe during the summer. Dr. Jung, who became a Konkuk University student in 1967 and serves as the president of its alumni association, has donated 100,000,000 KRW every year since 2012 so that students could go overseas. He hopes to continue the sponsorship for the next 15 years to benefit more than 500 students.
A total of 93 students applied for this year’s program, and after a round of interviews, 20 students were selected by lottery. The students, six of whom are from Konkuk’s Glocal campus in Chungju, will be touring the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Switzerland for 14 days starting in late June.
“I always felt sorry for myself for not being able to go abroad when I was a student,” said Dr. Jung. “If I had experienced the world outside of Korea, I think I could have achieved greater things. Although the job market is tight, I hope that Konkuk students can learn from the trip and make contributions to their communities.”
