On May 17, 2016, Konkuk University (KU) held a ceremony to celebrate the 100 golf championships won by its golf team at The Classic 500. So far, the golf team has won 10 LPGA championships, 37 JLPGA championships, and 53 KLPGA championships. The ceremony was attended by former and current members of KU’s golf team, including Hee Kyung Seo, Bo-Mee Lee (Masters GC), Hye Youn Kim (BC Card), Shin Ae Ahn (Haeundae Beach CC), and Yoonji Cho (NH Investment & Securities), students at the Department of Golf Teaching, and KU Chairperson Kyung-Hee Kim and President Heeyoung Song. Na-Yeon Choi, Sun Ju Ahn, and Ha Neul Kim, who are competing tournaments overseas sent video messages to congratulate Konkuk University. KU’s golf team began in 1982 as an all-male team. In 1994, Mr. Jongil Kim won KU’s first championship at the Sonata Cup SBS Professional Golf Tournament. In 2004, KU’s Department of Golf Teaching relocated to the Glocal Campus in Chungju and began to focus on training female golfers. Since 2005, the golf team has won multiple championships every year. For four consecutive years between 2009 and 2013, KU alumni became KLPGA’s top money winners. In 2015, Bo-Mee Lee won her seventh JLPGA title and broke the tour’s earnings record. She also won the 100th championship for KU’s golf team at the Yokohama Tire Golf Tournament PRGR Ladies Cup on March 13 this year.
