On April 22, 2016, Konkuk University (KU) announced that its “Plan for Constructing Urban Planning Facilities” was recently approved by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Since 2014, the government has required all universities located in the city to implement a plan in order to share campus facilities with the local community. KU’s medium- to long-term master plan was approved during the 7th meeting of the urban planning committee.According to the plan, KU is expected to construct seven buildings, including the Research and University-Industry Cooperation Foundation Building, dormitories, and a gymnasium. The existing Future Energy Building and the College of Veterinary Medicine Building are scheduled for expansion. The committee also designated the five “areas for general management,” which will further allow new construction on campus. The sports stadium, lawn, and Il-gam Lake became an “area for outdoor activities” to be used by the local community in addition to KU students and staff. In addition, the Sanghuh Museum and the area near the ox statue has been labeled as a “symbolic landscape area.”
