On July 26, 2016, Konkuk University (KU) announced that construction of the New Engineering Building was completed after 21 months. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for August 11.
The L-shaped New Engineering Building is located on the south of the College of Engineering. At 25,196㎡, it is the largest building on campus followed by the Sanghuh Memorial Library. The 14-story building, including a two-level basement, was designed with a focus on improving Konkuk’s research environment. All twelve floors have research labs, lecture halls, and seminar rooms. The New Engineering Building was also designed to be environmentally responsible and energy-efficient. Only LED lights were used throughout the building and solar panels were installed on the roof top.
The total cost of construction amounted to 40 billion won, part of which was financed by donations from professors and alumni of the College of Engineering and College of Information and Communication. So far, 170 people have participated in the fund raising campaign for the New Engineering Building, and KU will continue to offer naming opportunities for classrooms.
