Until July 29, Konkuk University will host 60 foreign students for the 2016 International Summer Program (ISP). The month-long program which commenced on July 4 is comprised of two sessions that last two-weeks each, and students have the option to participate in one or both sessions. Through the program, students are able to take classes on Korean history, business, and language as well as experience Korean culture first-hand while residing on campus.“ISP this year is designed to provide a very wholesome experience to foreign students who are interested in Korea,” said Vice President for International Affairs Kwangsoo Kim. “In addition to academic knowledge, we hope that students can immerse in Korean culture.” So far, students who participated in the first session were able to enjoy a variety of activities, which were mostly led by fellow KU students known as “International Student Volunteers.” Together, they played water sports in Gapyeong, took Taekwondo lessons, and learned about and tried on traditional outfits. They also visited Gyeongbok Palace, Insa-dong, and the National Museum of Korea in Seoul.“I was particularly impressed by the Korean language and culture classes,” said Kaspar-Pascal Holznagel from Erasmus University in the Netherlands. “And because of the various cultural activities, I became all the more interested in the language and culture.” Alice, who also came from Erasmus, said “I decided to join the program upon recommendation by a classmate who participated in previous sessions, and I am really satisfied because ISP is organized in a way that students can spend each and every day meaningfully.”
