The project is jointly funded by the two organizations. During the spring semester, the institute collaborated with KU’s graduate school as well as bioscience and biotechnology departments for the admissions process.
In addition to the 20 students from 13 African and Central Asian countries enrolled last year, KU welcomed 20 more students from 16 countries this year. The students come from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Philippines, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe. They are civil servants at both the central and local government level as well as public research institutes. Until December 2017, the students will join a five-week program in Korean language and culture, then take courses for three semesters. They will complete their master’s thesis in their respective countries during their fourth and last semester to receive their degrees in agronomy or business management.Regarding the master’s program, KU Provost and Executive Vice President Sang-Gi Min said, “its success will not only provide opportunities for agricultural cooperation, but also contribute to Korea’s reputation around the world.”
