On July 27, 2016, Konkuk University’s College of Veterinary Medicine signed MOUs with the Mongolian University of Life Sciences and State Central Veterinary Laboratory in Ulaanbaatar. Established as the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National University of Mongolia in 1942, the Mongolian University of Life Sciences has more than 9,000 undergraduate students and 2,600 graduate students. Nine KU professors and eight graduate students had visited the two institutions and participated in seminars to discuss academic exchange and joint research.Mongolia currently has 8.5 million head of livestock, including horses, cattle, sheep, yaks, goats, and camels. As the government is implementing large-scale projects to export meat products, livestock management and protection from diseases will be increasingly important. “The country is very interested in Korea’s advanced technology to diagnose livestock epidemics and promote hygiene,” said Dr. Chang-Seon Song, dean of KU’s College of Veterinary Medicine. “As Korea is the top destination of Mongolian students who hope to study abroad, we will endeavor to have Mongolian students enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine and collaborate in multiple areas.”
