Konkuk University (KU) was ranked 15th among Korean universities in an evaluation by JoongangIlbo, a leading daily newspaper in the country. In comparison, Konkuk ranked 21st last year. During this year’s evaluation, 69 universities that offer 4-year degrees in four or more programs in humanities, social science, natural science, engineering, medicine and arts were assessed, and Seoul National University took first place for consecutive years.
The annual evaluation is based on four criteria: research by faculty, academic environment, education and performance of students, and reputation. KU placed top 10 in six out of the 33 indexes and improved its ranking for 26 indexes. In particular, research by faculty as measured by articles published in international journals, humanities and social science articles published in domestic journals, and profit from technology transfers per faculty member in science and technology ranked 10th, 6th, and 10th, respectively. KU also performed better in terms of the percentage of both exchange students and foreign faculty.
