On October 11, 2016, a delegation from the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) visited Konkuk University (KU) to discuss exchanging students and expanding international development projects. Founded in 2010, RUPP is Cambodia’s largest public university with 20,000 students and 450 faculty members. It offers programs in humanities, education, language studies, sciences, engineering, social sciences, and development studies. With support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency, the Cambodia-Korea Cooperation Center at RUPP opened in November 2013 and provides IT and Korean language courses. In 2010, KU and RUPP provided a master's program in ICT through Korea’s National IT Industry Promotion Agency. The delegation included President Chealy Chet, Dean of the Faculty of Education Soth Sok, Cambodia-Korea Cooperation Center Director Thavouth Khoun and Professor Yonghwan Bang, a World Bank human resources development consultant who also serves as an advisor at the center. With KU President Sang-Gi Min, Professor Yongbeom Cho, Vice President for International Affairs MinKyoung Kim, the delegartion discussed KUPP’s strategy for 2014-2018, the Master Plan for RUPP ICT Infrastructure funded by the the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, and areas for cooperation with KU.
