During January 16-23, 2017, fourteen members of Biophilia visited Laos to treat farm animals and pets. Biophilia is a Konkuk University volunteer group formed by students, professors, and alumni of the College of Veterinary Medicine. This was the second trip following last year’s and included ten students, three alumni, and a faculty advisor. For the trip, Boehringer Ingelheim Korea, ChoongAng Vaccine Lab and other pharmaceutical companies have donated vaccines and medical equipment.
In Vientiane, Biophilia provided treatment to 800 farm animals and pets including cows, pigs, goats, and dogs. Members administered vaccinations to prevent porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome and rabies and performed pest control.
“I wanted to help others by volunteering, but I learned a lot more from the attitude of the local Laotian people,” said Gyuseon Choi, a third-year veterinary medicine student and president of Biophilia. “Thanks to the support by professors, alumni, and local NGO World Canaan Farmers’ School, we were able to have a meaningful experience.”
