On November 18, 2016, middle school students from Seoul American Middle School visited Konkuk University for a campus tour. The school is located on U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan and offers education to children of the military members stationed in Korea. The visit was organized by Professor Sean Daugherty of the Department of English Language and Literature and Konkuk student Minhwan Song who took the professor’s “Basic English Writing Class.” The two thought that even though the students were studying in Korea they lacked opportunities to understand Korean universities and experience their culture.
International Student Volunteers at the Office of International Affairs gave a presentation on the university and a campus tour similar to those offered by Konwoo and Konhee, Konkuk’s student ambassadors. American Forces Network, which provides radio and television services to close to 55,000 military members, filmed the visit for its “Korea on Location” program.
“Although the students have some time before college, I hope they had a meaningful experience learning about Konkuk and campus culture in Korea,” said Mr. Song, who leads the International Student Volunteers group.
