On October 18, 2016, Konkuk University Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital held the opening ceremony for its Center for Emergency Care. The center has a total of six veterinarians who work closely with internal medicine, surgery and ophthalmology departments. The hospital is the first of its kind among university-affiliated veterinary hospitals in Korea to provide overnight and emergency care.
Professor Soon-Wuk Jeong heads the center and Professor Hyunjeong Han is in charge of emergency care. A leading expert in the field, Professor Han received her doctorate degree in veterinary surgery and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center. In Korea, Professor Han has worked as a clinical expert in many large-scale hospitals and taught at Konkuk University where she received the “Best Teacher Award” three times. She said that in addition to providing high-quality emergency care, the center is committed to collaborating with local hospitals.
In a seminar following the opening ceremony, Professor Han and Clinical Professor Joonyoung Kim gave presentations on treating animals for traffic accidents and acute glaucoma.
