On November 16, 2017, KU delegation, including President Sanggi Min, embarked on a three-day official visit to Shanghai, China, to participate in Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) Centennial Celebration.
SUFE Centennial Celebration held on November 18, 2017, was attended by delegations from its 30 partner universities. The ceremony consisted of congratulatory remarks by national and international figures, a concert and a student representative’s presentation.
At a forum took place on the same day, KU President Sanggi Min and Tallinn University (located in Estonia) President Tilt Land agreed to facilitate cooperation on student exchange. In addition, he received an appreciation plaque from SUFE Vice President Yao Lingzhen for KU’s contributions to two universities’ strong relationship.
On November 17, 2017, SUFE hosted a forum for sharing and discussing ideas for future-oriented higher education which presidential delegations from 52 national and international universities took part in. During a thematic discussion session, participants exchanged opinions on △fostering talent and interdisciplinary fusion amid technological innovation △modernizing and internationalizing university administration △scientific research and development △developing local communities. Especially, they shared ideas on higher (or tertiary) education institutions’ responsibilities and missions in the new era.
Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) which was established in 1917 is part of China's 211 project (a project of National Key Universities and colleges initiated in 1995 by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, with the intent of raising the research standards of high-level universities and cultivating strategies for socio-economic development). SUFE is famous for Economics, Finance, Accounting and International trade.
Since conclusion of an academic exchange agreement in 2016, KU has sent approximately 900 students to SUFE over last 10 years through a student exchange program and short-term programs.
