KU Matriculation Ceremony on March 7

<p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"><span style="color: #000000; font-size: small;">Konkuk University (KU)’s matriculation ceremony was held at the New Millennium Hall and Ugok International Conference Hall on March 7, 2018. 3,484 freshmen and their parents attended the ceremony which was organized to congratulate new students who are going to prepare for future and grow as global talent full of creativity.<br /><br /><img width="401" height="262" style="margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; display: block;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11725269" /><br /></span></span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"><span style="color: #000000; font-size: small;">The ceremony emceed by KU alumnus and TV presenter Yeong-il Shin was divided into two parts: official ceremony (freshman pledge, declaration of code of ethics for students, conferment of scholarship certificates, declaration of matriculation, and welcoming and congratulatory remarks) and after-the-ceremony events (guidance on campus life, KU’s promotional video, introduction of the KU Student Council, video clips containing congratulatory messages, and celebratory performances).<br /><br /><img width="532" height="143" style="margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; display: block;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11725270" /><br /></span></span></p> <div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"><span style="color: #000000; font-size: small;">Heung-sik Kim of the Department of Media and Communication, College of Liberal Arts, and Min-kyeong Kang of the College of the Department of Physical Education, College of Education, recited the freshman pledge and Yong-woo Park of the Department of Management of Technology, College of Business Administration, and Hye-won Hong of the Department of Film & Moving Image, College of Arts & Design, read the declaration of code of ethics for students.<br /><br /></span></span></div> <div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"><span style="color: #000000; font-size: small;">During the scholarship certificate conferment ceremony, “First-class Sanghuh Scholarship “and “Second-class Sanghuh Scholarship” certificates were awarded to Ha-na Baek of the College of Veterinary Medicine who took top place on the entrance examination and Jeong-hyeon Lee of the Department of Physical Education, College of Education, respectively. In addition, Eo-jin Kim of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Se-hwan Park of the Department of Chemistry, College of Sciences received “First-class Global Leader Scholarship” and “Second-class Global Leader Scholarship”, respectively.<br /><br /><img width="401" height="271" style="margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; display: block;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11725271" /><br /></span></span></div> <div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"><span style="color: #000000; font-size: small;">“KU students are incomparably brilliant and the status and the brand value of KU have gradually increased. All of you are the future of KU and part of the history of Korea as members of KU. In the era of 4th industrial revolution, people will invent and discover new things by combining areas of knowledge, rather than focusing on one area,” said KU President Sanggi Min. Then added, “you need to acquire fundamental knowledge of various areas to easily go beyond academic boundaries. If you set a goal and don’t achieve it, it will merely remain a daydream. You should form a habit of striving for everything”.<br /><br /></span></span></div> <div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;"><span style="color: #000000; font-size: small;">“From now on, you should learn independently, take responsibilities for your lives, and establish values. So, freshman year is a crucial time for you. You must develop an ability to control your emotions and actions by thinking and acting autonomously. It is important to pay attention to and have curiosity about other areas, similar to your majors as well. I hope you will actively participate in discussion with other students and become talent possessing skills necessary in our society with challenging spirit and ceaseless efforts. In addition, you must remind yourself that KU is a private university with long traditions established by Dr. Seok-chang Yoo, a Korean independence activist.
