Professor Jeong-pyo Choi of the Department of Economics, College of Social Sciences, was appointed as president of Korea Development Institute (KDI). The president’s term is three years.
Professor Choi who served as a co-representative of the Citizens’ Coalition for Economic Justice (CCEJ) is well-known for his role in planning for reform of Korean conglomerates (chaebol) at a policy think tank of then-presidential candidate Jae-in Moon.
According to the KDI, the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences elected and nominated Professor Jeong-pyo Choi as KDI’s 15th president during the 252nd regular board meeting held at the Gangnam Smart Work Center in Seoul.
President Choi, born in 1953, earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Sung Kyunkwan University (SKKU) and a master’s degree and a PhD in economics from the State University of New York (SUNY), US.
