	KU Selected as a Startup-Leading University for Five Consecutive years

<p>On March 26, 2018, Konkuk University (KU) announced that the it has been selected as a Startup-Leading University as part of the 2018 Startup-Leading University Cultivation Project of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) for five consecutive years.<br /><br /><img width="632" height="356" style="margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; display: block;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11728430" /></p>

<p>Through the Startup-Leading University Cultivation Project, the MSS designates 43 universities having excellent startup support systems as Startup-Leading Universities and comprehensively assists citizens including youths in establishing their startups by offering courses for startups, helping them to discover business items and financially supporting their business ideas. KU will be receiving KRW 9.2 billion over five years.</p>
<p>The universities chosen as Start-up Leading Universities will serve as local hubs for startup support by cooperating with faculty and staff members of their own universities and local institutions.</p>
<p>KU has been holding an annual Startup Camp for teenagers and university students since 2014 when it first became a Startup-Leading University. Moreover, the university has been endeavoring to create an atmosphere where entrepreneurship can be fostered by supporting student startup clubs, offering startup-related courses and scholarships and running internship programs with startups. As a result of these efforts, KU has made remarkable achievements in nurturing entrepreneurs possessing essential skills and promoting startups among the youth. Between 2015 to 2018, the number of student entrepreneurs increased from 4 to 22.</p>
<p>“We have been honing skills and accumulating knowledge needed for startup support through the Startup-Leading University Cultivation Project and will keep improving our status as a local hub for startup support by continuing to come up with effective and practical measures to further encourage startups among students,” said Cheol-gyu Lee, Director of the Startup Support Group.</p>
<p>In addition to this, KU has been ramping up efforts in educational innovation to help students acquire skills required in the 4th industrial revolution by running the KU Smart Factory equipped with 3D printers and VR devices and 3D design courses.</p>
