On April 2, 2018, Konkuk University (KU) held the opening ceremony of the “PRIME Lounge” in the New Engineering Building. The PRIME Lounge, located in Room 105 of the New Engineering Building and Room 112 of the Admissions & Information Technology Building, is open to all students. Room 105 of the New Engineering Building is a place where they can study or relax, whereas Room 112 of the Admissions & Information Technology Building is a place where they can receive counseling from KU staff members.
PRIME Project Corps developed the design concept of the lounge after visiting several universities running PRIME (Program for Industrial Needs-Matched Education) project including Hanyang University and Soon Chun Hyang University. They obtained approval for the space in October 2017 and completed construction in late March 2018.
The PRIME Lounge covering approximately 21 pyeong, situated in the New Engineering Building, is furnished with a bar table for laptop users, a table for discussants and a rest area.
There are two counseling rooms where staff members from the Office of Admissions can provide students with admissions-related counseling during the application period in the PRIME Lounge covering 20 pyeong in the Admissions & Information Technology Building.
“KU has been continuously improving the educational environment to better satisfy students’ needs and expectations after being selected for the PRIME project. We are planning to increase the number of open spaces for studying on our campus as part of our three-year project,” said Hwang-seon Kang, President for PRIME Project Corps.
