Professor Gyu-ha Choe of the Department of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, was appointed as president of Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). The president’s term is three years, beginning in 2017.
Professor Choe earned his bachelors, master’s and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Seoul National University in 1978, 1980 and 1986, respectively.
Since Professor Choe joined Konkuk University (KU)’s faculty in 1980, he has held various positions and roles, including vice president for Academic Affairs and provost at KU and directors of several electrotechnology research-related centers.
He also worked as member and chairperson of an advisory committee for energy safety of the Ministry of the Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), member in charge of program planning and assessment of the Korea Research Council for Industrial Science & Technology and president of the Korean Institute of Power.
KERI is a government-funded research and state-authorized testing and certification institute which was established in 1976. The institute aims to contribute to development of the electric power industry of Korea by conducting research and development of applied technologies.
