Chairman of Konkuk University Foundation, Jaeun Yoo, participated in the eco-friendly campaign ‘GO GO Challenge’.As a part of the challenge, Chairman Yoo and Konkuk University Foundation holds a campaign for all Konkuk members to reduce the usage of plastic under the slogan ‘GO ZERO plastic for healthy and pleasant education environment! GO lead ESG management for the first school foundation in Korea!’Konkuk University was highlighted for its ESG Committee in April for the first time as a domestic school corporation. All subsidiaries of the corporation are actively promoting the practice of ‘ZERO plastic’. And are implementing ‘Green Office Project’ to stop the usage of paper and build eco-friendly office environment.It is also planning promotional activities to ban unauthorized cigarette butts for a pleasant education environment in the future. Cigarette butts not only harm the aesthetics of campus but also pollute the marine ecosystem when more than 90% of them, which look like papers, flow into rivers through waterways with plastic. The school foundation will actively participate in the campaign as the Ministry of Environment and local governments are currently considering ways to recycle cigarette butts.The members of Konkuk are taking the lead in making efforts for ZERO plastic in the research field. They are conducting research to develop eco-friendly plastics and study circulation of waste resources as well as the effects of microplastics on the ecological environment.In addition, the student club ‘Energy Saver’ at Konkuk University is holding eco-friendly campaigns such as SO SO Challenge, E-利 day and SNS zero bingo game.‘Restio’, a campus café with the disabled employees run by the school foundation, plans to introduce paper straws instead of plastic ones.The GO GO Challenge is a campaign to reduce plastic in daily life, which began in January, 2021 under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment. Chairman Yoo began to take part in the campaign following the suggestion of Woong-yeul Lee, the honorary president of Kolon Group. Chairman Yoo said, “Through these attempts to make small changes in daily life, we will strive for sustainable future of the school corporation and subsidiaries, and expect the continuous attention and practice of all members at Konkuk.”Chairman Yoo recommended President Young-kwan Lee, President of Toray Advanced Materials, a global chemical material company pursuing green growth and sustainable management as a candidate for the next generation.
