Graduate students (Prof. Jin-Soo Hahn) of Department of Bio & Healing Convergence at Konkuk University’s Graduate School announced on the 20th that they have completed translating a specialized book on animal-assisted therapy, ‘Handbook on Animal-Assisted Therapy, Academic Press’.Written by Prof. Aubrey H. Fine at California Polytechnic State University, the ‘Handbook on Animal-Assisted Therapy’ is widely recognized in the field of animal-assisted therapy, with five editions published in 20 years.The graduate students of Department of Bio & Healing Convergence participated in translation and correction for 2 years with professors making correction and supervision. (Lead translators: Hye-Mi Shim, Moon-Seok Yoon, Yeon-Sook Cho, Jin-Soo Hahn / 18 participants in total)The students who translated the book have voluntarily established ‘KHAI’ to head toward the right direction, and are planning on research and education businesses suggested by this book. Published by OKVET (CEO Sang-Don Lee) at the end of January, the book is expected to be on sale at Vbooks (CEO Kyung-Mo Yang). In February, there will be a seminar as well as a publication ceremony.Prof. Hahn said, “We’ve taken advice from the experts and analyzed Korean and foreign academic research focusing on the original text to improve translation accuracy,” and, “We hope that this book over 500 pages will be a great help for term unification in the field of animal-assisted therapy as well as research and industries in Korea.”Animal-assisted therapy is a convergence study that researches various fields including humanities and social science, sociology, medicine, zoology and veterinary medicine. In addition to animal-assisted therapy, the Department of Bio & Healing Convergence at Konkuk University offers lectures on counseling psychology, rehabilitation medicine, psychiatry and health nursing with various experts.
