Konkuk University signed a MOU with Namwon City on the 18th for effective urban development and urban regeneration project. The signing agreement which was scheduled to be held at Konkuk University’s Administration Building took place non-face-to-face due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The non-face-to-face agreement was attended by President Young Jae Jeon, Professor Jungkeun Oh from Department of Urban Regeneration at Graduate School of Konkuk University and so on, while Professor Oh, Professor Hongtae Kim and Professor Kyosik Jang visited Namwon City for an agreement with Mayor Whanju Lee and the officials.Throughout the agreement, the two institutions will work on to exchange manpower, establish policy directions, meet demands for expert review and advice when promoting projects in addition to conducting mutual cooperation on related projects and research.Urban regeneration, the main topic of this agreement, focuses on researching various and sustainable urban management plans including economic revitalization and job creation through strengthening urban competitiveness to develop residents’ quality of life. It also aims to help transform Namwon City into a socially, economically and environmentally competitive city.Konkuk University and Namwon City plan to cooperate on research development and policy establishment through data sharing related to urban regeneration as well as education and content development targeting for experts, Namwon City officials and residents. A working-level council will soon be organized among Department of Urban Regeneration at Konkuk University, Research Institute of KU Sustainable Urban Regeneration and related departments at Namwon City.Professor Oh from Department of Urban Regeneration at Graduate School of Konkuk University – Director, Research Institute of KU Sustainable Urban Regeneration said, “Throughout the agreement, we hope that the urban growth management of Namwon City will be a cornerstone to develop residents’ quality of life and urban competitiveness and further cultivate urban regeneration professionals who can contribute to our society and country.”
