Department of Film and Animation

While film is a medium that employs the most recently-developed forms of technology, it also requires an emotional understanding of humanity, sense of introspection, and imagination. The Department of Film and Animation at Konkuk University (KU) aims to develop the future professionals of the Korean film and moving image industries, who possess both the techniques and in-depth knowledge of their own major field, and who are creative and original thinkers. We provide the intensive practical experience and broad knowledge of the humanities that such professionals require. The department helps students broaden their creative horizons and conducts in-depth studies on the knowledge and techniques. This will be done by placing a focus on in-field practice, and the study of arts and humanities, in addition to film studies.

Although films have emerged in recent times as a part of the entertainment industry, their very content embodies humanity's long history of visual, audial, and narrative art. The department aims to develop students' key abilities by exploring the characteristics of film in a practical and fundamental manner, further enhancing the educational depth of the major itself. Our program aims to nurture its students to become film makers and actors capable of playing a leading role in the advancement of Korean film, video, TV and new media industries.

We also produce creative production personnel who will play a key role in the planning and creation of content for the Korean moving image industry in the new era, and develop expertise and creativity in students so that they can produce moving image content in new environments. With a basis in animation, which emphasizes movement as a form of visual expression, students experience a wide range of mediums, from the traditional to those of the multi-platform age. Students' future-oriented diversity and potential is expanded into creative mediums based on endless experimentation and an emphasis on student individuality. Our affiliation with the graduate school allows students to pursue further, more in-depth studies in their chosen area.

Our objective is to produce experts who will play a key role in the planning and creation of moving image content in the new era. With a basis in animation, which emphasizes movement as a form of visual expression, students experience a wide range of mediums, from the traditional to those of the multi-platform age. Students' future-oriented diversity and potential is expanded into creative mediums based on endless experimentation and an emphasis on student individuality. We equip students with the base skills required to become moving image content planners/producers by way of intensive courses covering the fundamental practical skills related to moving images.
